Dr. Matsushima graduated from Dokkyo Medical University School of Medicine in 1991. In 1995, he studied at Washington State University. In 2006, he became Associate Professor at Dokkyo Medical University, where he remains affiliated, performing over 1,000 cataract surgery cases per year.

Dr. Matsushima’s special research interests are the prevention of PCO, the analysis of the protein substance of cataracts, and the evaluation of intraocular lens stability.

Dr. Matsushima has won several awards as a producer of educational videos, placing 3rd at the ESCRS Video Competition in 2008; 1st at both the ASCRS Film Festival and ESCRS Video Competition in 2010, 2012, and 2014; and runner up at ASCRS and 1st at ESCRS in 2016.
